Russia responds to Britain by suspending its airspace for flights, including transit
The Federal Air Transport Agency announced that Russia will restrict the use of its airspace to British aircraft flights, including transit flights.
It said: "February 25 2022, as of 11:00 Moscow time, restrictions were imposed on the use of Russian airspace for flights of aircraft owned, leased or operated by persons associated with the United Kingdom or registered in the United Kingdom, to points on the territory of Russia including: These are transit flights through the airspace of the Russian Federation.
It added: “This action was taken in accordance with the provisions of the Intergovernmental Air Services Agreement between Russia and the UK in response to unfriendly decisions made by the UK aviation authorities regarding restrictions on scheduled flights for aircraft owned, leased or operated by a person associated with Russia or registered In Russia".
On Thursday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, speaking in Parliament regarding Russia's special operation to disarm Ukraine, said London was preventing Aeroflot from operating in the UK.
