The Dubai Chambers and the Uruguay Chamber of Commerce and Services have signed a joint memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting and facilitating effective cooperation in the fields of trade, industry and services.

The agreement was signed within the activities of the UAE-Uruguayan Business Forum organized by Dubai Chambers at its headquarters, in the presence of Uruguayan President Luis La Caille Pou, who stressed the importance of developing economic relations between the UAE and his country, and benefiting from the capabilities of both sides to advance cooperation and bilateral trade and investment exchange.

He said that his country is looking forward to promising economic and trade relations with the UAE, calling on Emirati companies to come to his country and invest in it, especially as it provides an ideal environment for the growth of investments in various sectors.

In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dubai International Chamber, Sultan bin Sulayem, said that Dubai's non-oil trade with Uruguay amounted to 14.6 million dollars in 2020. He added, "There is a lot of untapped trade potential that the business communities between the two sides can benefit from," pointing out He pointed out that Dubai is a preferred trade and investment center for many Latin American-based companies that have strengthened its strategic geographical position to expand their global presence across the Middle East and Africa. He pointed to the growth of the number of Latin American companies registered in the Dubai Chamber of Commerce membership to exceed 500 companies.

In addition, the introductory speeches and presentations conducted during the forum's activities showed the importance of strengthening the joint bilateral relations between the two sides, and benefiting from undiscovered business opportunities between Dubai and Uruguay in promising sectors of common interest such as tourism, information technology, finance, logistics, transport and renewable energy.
