It's a record !

The proceeds from public auctions in France reached the figure of four billion euros in 2021. This is an increase of almost 40% compared to 2020, a year marked by the health crisis, announced Monday the Sales Council, the sector's regulatory authority.

An explosion of online sales

In 2020, this figure had risen to 2.9 billion euros (-14%) after a sharp increase in 2019 to 3.3 billion euros (+12% compared to 2018), specified the same source.

"The explosion of online auctions explains this good result", according to the Sales Council which estimates that "France should confirm its fourth place on the world market, after China, the United States and the United Kingdom ".

Digital transformation is "one of the major successes of auction houses' response to the crisis with nine out of ten auction houses (which) now use digital platforms", out of "more than 400 auction houses in France and over 600 auctioneers,” says the Sales Council.

The organization will publish a detailed review of the global auction market in June.
