Haute-Savoie is the French department with the largest share of households receiving income from abroad.

In total, 89,900 households receive income from another country, reports the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) in a study relayed by

Swiss influence

The document highlights the link between the high proportion of households receiving foreign income and the proximity to Switzerland.

The figure thus exceeds 50% in the intermunicipalities closest to the Swiss confederation and even reaches 67% in the community of municipalities of Geneva.

At the same time, the number of cross-border workers has doubled in 20 years, thanks in particular to the various economic agreements between Switzerland and the European Union.

Half of the households concerned receive a salary of more than 39,700 euros per year.

This standard of living enables them to belong to the 10% of the wealthiest households in metropolitan France.
