"Shows the sense of social responsibility of Chinese enterprises"

It was late at night, and Mohammed Salman al-Shayeb, a Saudi boy, was in the dormitory looking through his study notes during the day.

Shayeb is an employee of the SP-165 well team of Sinopec's Saudi Shengli drilling project.

In 2008, Sinopec established a training center in Abqaiq, a town in eastern Saudi Arabia, to help employees develop their professional skills. Sayeb is a frequent visitor to the training center.

“I still remember that when I first participated in the training, I hardly knew some professional English vocabulary in the drilling field, and it was difficult to read the materials and understand the knowledge of well control. The Chinese teacher patiently answered our questions and urged us to practice repeatedly. After nearly 3 months of hard work, I successfully passed the well control exam of the International Drilling Contractors Association." Shayeb said that the training center provided us with a good learning, accommodation and catering environment, and the students also established a strong relationship with Chinese teachers. friendship.

Every time he participates in training, Sayeb gains a lot.

In 2016, he was rated as an outstanding employee of the Shengli Drilling Project and was given the opportunity to study and exchange in China; in 2018, Shayeb became the first Saudi driller of the project.

"Chinese companies attach great importance to training to improve the work skills of foreign employees, and often arrange for Chinese employees to give us on-site guidance. We can improve our skills and get promoted by participating in relevant meetings, safety technical training, etc." Shayeb said, "My colleagues and I have changed from the original The basic jobs have been promoted to senior positions step by step, and the income has also increased a lot.”

The young Saudi Yousef said that drilling is a technical job, and he was very unfamiliar when he first came to the drilling floor. The project specially arranged for a Chinese master to "pair" with him.

Under the guidance and help of the master, after nearly 5 years of training, Yousef became the deputy driller of the well team, responsible for the management of the entire team of Saudi employees.

At the same time as he made a small achievement in his career, he also became a family and built a new house.

Encouraged by his elder brother, Yosef's younger brother is now also working in the drilling team of a Chinese company as a derrick worker.

In order to meet the needs of the students, the training center also offers Chinese culture courses such as Chinese, calligraphy, and traditional music. Students can also borrow books from the "Silk Road Bookstore" library to learn about Chinese culture.

As of the beginning of November last year, the training center has held 1,537 sessions of various types of training, including safety training for newly recruited foreign employees, drilling technology and well control training for Saudi employees, and more than 150,000 employees.

Samir, former vice president of Saudi Aramco, said: "The various trainings organized by Chinese companies have helped Saudi employees improve their work skills and work efficiency, enhanced communication and friendship among the people, and demonstrated the social responsibility of Chinese companies. We look forward to continued cooperation between the two sides in the future. enrich and deepen.”
