On February 15, Guangzhou officials announced that two cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed in Guangzhou in two exceptions.

A day later, the two confirmed cases of the new crown were actually linked to the resignation of the chairman of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (600004).

Baiyun Airport announced on the same day that the board of directors of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Co., Ltd. received a written resignation report submitted by the chairman of the company, Mr. Qiu Jiachen, on February 14, 2022.

Due to personal reasons, Mr. Qiu Jiachen applied for his resignation as director, chairman and legal representative of the company.

A day later, the Internet began to report that Qiu Jiachen's resignation was related to two cases of confirmed new coronary pneumonia cases in Guangzhou who came to Guangzhou to play together.

In this regard, Qiu Jiachen said that the information about the resignation of the chairman of Baiyun Airport and the new coronary pneumonia cases is purely a rumor, and I have already reported this to the police.

According to the reporter's understanding, after Qiu Jiachen resigned as chairman of Baiyun Airport, he will continue to serve in Guangdong Airport Management Group Co., Ltd., the parent company of Baiyun Airport.

The Baiyun Airport is currently presided over by the company's general manager Wang Xiaoyong.

Before that, Qiu Jiachen served as chief accountant, party committee member, chief economist, and deputy general manager of Guangdong Airport Management Group Co., Ltd.

In August 2016, Qiu Jiachen began to serve as the chairman of Baiyun Airport, and has served for 5 and a half years so far.

In 2020, the passenger throughput of Baiyun Airport once ranked first in China and even in the world. It is the airport with the fastest recovery after the epidemic, the largest domestic passenger flow, and the most take-off and landing flights. It is expected that the passenger throughput in 2021 will still rank first in China.

However, due to the repeated local epidemics in the second half of 2021, the domestic passenger throughput of Baiyun Airport in December 2021 will decrease by 50% year-on-year, and the number one position in the world may be overtaken by Atlanta Airport in the United States.

At press time, Baiyun Airport was down 2.04%.
