While the French automobile market has stagnated at a historically low level since 2020, it is paradoxically supported by the electric vehicle sector, which represents 9.8% of sales (with nearly 162,000 vehicles sold in 2021, i.e. +45.6% over a year).

And this spectacular progression is also confirmed outside France, according to the annual report published by the British audit network PwC.

A constantly expanding market… but not everywhere

Global sales of 100% electric passenger cars more than doubled in 2021, reaching around 4.4 million units!

The largest market (in volume) remains China, where 2.9 million units were sold.

But in terms of market share, it is Europe, the northern countries in the lead, which occupies pole position.

In Norway, which offers large purchase subsidies (thanks, ironically, to the income that this state derives from oil), nearly two out of three new registrations were for electric vehicles.

While these great economic powers, the United States and Japan, were rather lagging behind, the all-electric having represented only 2.7% and 0.9% of sales respectively there last year…
