Videos posted on social networks since yesterday show several men from the police breaking into the homes of Jordanian activists from the "Hirak" movement at night, which denounces corruption and the deterioration of living conditions. in the Hashemite Kingdom.

They were then transferred to several prisons in the country, without knowing the reasons for their arrest.

Methods bordering on legality, which are increasingly common in the country, according to the Jordanian National Center for Human Rights.

For Abdul Qader Al-Khatib, chairman of the freedoms committee of the Islamic Action Front, these events prove "

that the government mistreats political activists and exacerbates the crisis in the country

".

Radicalization of the regime

This wave of arrests follows only a few days that of Ratib Abu Zaid, a former member of the Commission for Integrity and the Fight against Corruption.

He had been arrested after having denounced cases of corruption in the institutions of the kingdom, according to his family, who have since requested his release.

More generally, local human rights associations see in the multiplication of arrests of activists and militants the sign of a radicalization of the regime of Abdallah II.
