“We discussed in detail the security risks associated with Nord Stream 2, and here we have some disagreements in our assessments,” RIA Novosti quotes Zelensky.

According to the Ukrainian leader, Kiev views the pipeline solely through the prism of the energy and security threats.

He stressed that the project is a geopolitical weapon, in connection with which Ukraine needs energy security guarantees.

“I proposed starting a specific strategic dialogue in the energy sector, within the framework of which energy guarantees and effective support for our country will be developed,” Zelensky said.

In conclusion, he added that Germany should become a guarantor of the continuation of gas transit through Ukraine.

Earlier, Russian Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov expressed the opinion that the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is primarily in the interests of European consumers.

Igor Yushkov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of Russia and a leading analyst at the National Energy Security Fund, said in an interview with RT that the gas pipeline is needed and important for both Russia and Europeans.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed concern that Western countries have turned the SP-2 gas pipeline into an instrument of pressure on Moscow.
