[Beijing Winter Olympics] Revealing the "Black Technology" of the Winter Olympics: Aerospace Technology Applied in Speed Skating Training

[Explanation] At present, the Beijing Winter Olympics are in full swing, and the Chinese speed skating team has made breakthroughs in many sports.

On February 12, in the men's 500-meter speed skating competition, Gao Tingyu won the gold medal with a time of 34.32 seconds, setting a new Winter Olympic record at the same time.

And good results are inseparable from a university scientific research team engaged in aerospace industry.

Recently, in an exclusive interview with China News Agency, Ke Peng, an associate professor of Beihang University, revealed a number of "black technologies" used in China's ice and snow projects.

[Same period] Ke Peng, a Chinese ice and snow scientist and associate professor of the School of Transportation Science and Engineering, Beihang University, so in order to improve performance, in addition to the traditional research and training that relies on athletes' "people", it requires more scientific and technological power. Only by creating a better environment and providing better equipment can the factors of "human, machine and environment" be organically coupled together and the best effect can be exerted.

Therefore, the improvement of modern sports performance must be the result of "science and technology".

[Explanation] During the preparation cycle for the Beijing Winter Olympics, Ke Peng led the team to fully learn from the technical methods of aerospace engineering, and carried out a lot of scientific and technological research and development work for speed skating and other projects.

[Same period] Ke Peng, a Chinese ice and snow scientist and associate professor of the School of Transportation Science and Engineering, Beihang University, has a small booster on our athletes. In fact, it is with the help of our aerospace propulsion theory to add an extra power to our athletes. .

The analysis of the route and the optimization of the pace, the back-end algorithm here is actually the same as many optimization technologies and optimization algorithms in our aerospace field, and we borrow it from it.

In addition, there is simulation training. The Erqi Base has carried out some training methods based on six degrees of freedom. In fact, this is actually the first training pilot in the aerospace field to train pilots to do this flight simulator training. In fact, the idea is exactly the same.

[Explanation] In order to allow athletes to train more efficiently and in a more targeted manner, the Erqi National Ice and Snow Sports Training and Research Base has also established a full-time scoring system.

Ke Peng introduced that the system can record information such as the sliding speed and sliding attitude of each position during the athlete's sliding process, which can assist coaches in post-match analysis.

Ke Peng and the others have set up more than 20 cameras at our base, which can capture the entire gliding process on the entire 400-meter track. They use some digital methods and artificial intelligence methods to extract the gliding process. Some of the gliding speed, gliding route, gliding trajectory, etc. of the information provided first-hand data for our subsequent analysis.

[Explanation] In racing events, wind resistance is one of the obstacles for athletes to break through.

To this end, the scientific research team worked hard on the athlete's competition equipment, and introduced design concepts such as shark skin to achieve the effect of drag reduction.

[Same period] Ke Peng, a Chinese ice and snow scientist and associate professor of the School of Transportation Science and Engineering, Beihang University, has a very high speed in speed skating, and with the help of related technologies, drag reduction can also be achieved.

Let's take a simple example. Now in our speed skating and short track speed skating clothing design, we are also considering similar methods. For example, we add some special parts similar to shark skin to some parts of the body. The microstructure design, sticking some grooves or printing, etc., draws on the drag reduction effect of shark skin through this.
