The Covid-19 crisis has had a beneficial effect for motorists: a drop in road traffic, and therefore traffic jams.

But, in 2021, the volume of cars on the roads has started to rise again, and with it traffic jams, reports

According to a ranking compiled by TomTom, Nice was the "slowest" city last year, with drivers traveling at an average of 37.3 km/h, compared to 38.5 km/h in 2020. On the second step is finds Marseille (37.7 km / h), followed by Paris, where we drove on average at 39.3 km / h in 2021, against 40.7 km / h the previous year.

In total, Ile-de-France residents spent six days in traffic jams in 2021.

The rise of telework has limited traffic jams

The top 10 is completed by Toulon (41.1 km/h), Lyon (43.3 km/h), Bordeaux (43.6 km/h), Grenoble (45.4 km/h), Lille (47 km /h), Toulouse (50.4 km/h) and Nantes (50.6 km/h).

At the same time, Nice saw its traffic index increase.

Represented by the city's congestion rate, it reached 28 in 2021, compared to 25 in 2020, a year deemed exceptional due to health restrictions.

TomTom notes in its study the effect of teleworking and the rise of deliveries, which make it possible to smooth out travel more over the day and limit the impact on traffic jams.

But the company fears for the future peaks in traffic “higher than those of 2019”, once the Omicron wave has passed, specifies
