Porsche has chosen the GP Ice Race in Zell Am See (Austria) for the European premiere of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, a high-performance version of its small sports coupé.
However, the biggest novelty at this event was the synthetic fuel that powered the cars presented to spectators.
Developed by Porsche, Siemens Energy and other international partners, this new type of petrol was tested throughout 2021 by the 911 GT3 Cups that took part in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup races.
Produced in an almost carbon-neutral manner, this fuel allows a significant and rapid reduction in CO2 emissions.
The construction of the first factory initiated by the manufacturer for the production of e-fuels started just a few weeks ago.
From 2022, it should produce some 130,000 liters per year.
Porsche will buy all of this volume, and will initially use it mainly in competition.
In the future, e-fuels should also be used for road cars, including historic models.
