Overnight stays in hotels throughout the year 2021 exceeded

, compared to the figure of 343 million in 2019, still 50% below before the pandemic, according to the annual hotel situation data published by the INE.

62.7% of overnight stays

were concentrated between the months of May and September

and the stays of Spaniards (or residents) fell by 24.4%, so that eight out of 10 have recovered, and represent half of the stays (52%).

Those of non-residents are still 63.4% below those before the pandemic and represent the other 47%.

The most chosen destination by internationals was the Canary Islands, which accounted for three out of 10 stays.

Travelers from Germany and the United Kingdom made 31.0 million overnight stays, which represented 38.0% of the total made by non-residents.

Prices have grown by almost 13%,

with Andalusia, the Basque Country and the Balearic Islands at the forefront of this growth.

In December, hotel stays by international tourists and residents exceeded 13 million, and only 22.3% below the 2019 figures, and

despite omicron.

The hotel nights of the Spaniards are almost in the figures of then (they have only lost one in 10), while those of foreigners are still 30% below.

The average stay increased by 18.3% compared to December 2020, standing at 2.7 overnight stays per traveler.

The average daily income per available room

(which measures the profitability of the sector) reached 45.6 euros, compared to 61 euros in 2019.

By category, the average billing is 198.1 euros for five-star hotels, 96.7 euros for four-star hotels and 71.7 euros for three-star hotels.

The income per available room for these same categories is 96.7, 48.2 and 34.8 euros, respectively.
