The activities of the "Future Energy Summit" will start today, Monday, as part of the "Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week", which has been held annually since 2008, and will continue until January 19.

The official opening of the summit will take place at the Dubai Exhibition Center, coinciding with the Expo 2020 Dubai.

The summit, organized by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company "Masdar", focuses on two important axes, the first: climate change and advancing the global agenda for sustainable development, and the second: "innovation", because of its great importance in the world's shift towards clean energy.

The summit will also discuss, in person and virtually, a number of environmental issues, reducing carbon emissions, and recycling waste, as well as ongoing annual initiatives such as: "Youth for Sustainability" and the "Zayed Sustainability Prize".

One of the most prominent speakers at the summit was the President of Singapore, Halimah Yacoub, who stressed that the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is an appropriate opportunity to exchange views on the extent of the collective response that should be taken urgently.

The axes of the summit are consistent with the "Fifty Principles" document, which constitutes the strategic path of the UAE during the next phase.

Important events

Since its launch in 2008, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week has focused on stimulating efforts in three areas: international cooperation and leadership, economic development, and technology and innovation.

Through cooperation with its partners from the public and private sectors, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and Masdar provide participants with a series of important events that include the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit, Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum, Zayed Sustainability Prize Distribution Ceremony, Women’s Forum for Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy, Youth Center for Sustainability, and the Festival in Masdar City.

Since the launch of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Abu Dhabi has been classified as the capital of renewable energy, as it acquires about 70% of clean energy projects in the region, the first to use carbon capture technology on an industrial scale, and the first Arab city to use peaceful nuclear energy in the production of electricity.
