, has reached an agreement to acquire the iconic

Royal Bank Plaza skyscraper in Toronto

(Canada) for nearly 1,150 million Canadian dollars (more than 800 million euros).

The property, which consists of two office buildings, has been acquired from the real estate firm of Oxford Properties, as sources from Pontegadea have confirmed to Europa Press.

Specifically, Ortega has taken over the iconic Canadian skyscraper, a complex where the Royal Bank, Canada's main bank, has its headquarters.

The tower, which is characterized by its

gold cladding

, is located in the heart of Toronto's financial district.

This is not the first purchase made by Pontegadea in Canada, as in 2016 the company acquired a historic building on one of Montreal's main shopping streets for around 29 million euros, while in 2014 it bought another property in Toronto.

The founder of Inditex, who thus begins the new year by expanding his property portfolio, invests part of the dividends he receives from the textile company in the real estate sector through his investment firm Pontegadea Inmobiliaria.

Ortega owns the largest Spanish real estate agency, focused on the sale and rental of large buildings, with a portfolio of real estate assets made up mainly of non-residential office buildings located in the center of large cities in Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Asia. .
