The federal and state governments are once again faced with the question of whether they should invest more money in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's MV Werften.

They jumped into the company with 300 million euros after the corona virus abruptly stopped cruise tourism.

After all, the Asian owner, the Genting conglomerate, also helped save the East German shipbuilders.

Now that Genting is also in distress, he is obviously trying to minimize his risks to the detriment of German taxpayers.

Berlin and Schwerin are not allowed to go along with that.

Even before the virus broke out, the Eastern company had to struggle to keep up in the unfamiliar cruise segment.

Therefore, the previous state aid pledges were questionable because they actually require a good prospect of continuation.

It is missing and cannot be brought about.

The new Green Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck should end the subsidy - and show that he has more promising uses for scarce taxpayers' money than sinking it in ships.
