China News Service, Shanghai, January 8 (Yin Liqin) At the beginning of the new year, China has made another milestone breakthrough in the field of R&D, design and construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

On January 7, the signing ceremony of "CNOOC's medium and long-term FOB resource supporting LNG carrier project", which has attracted much attention in the industry, was held in Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo, Japan by video link.

Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co., Ltd. under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, as joint sellers, formally signed 6 ships of the world's latest generation "Changheng series" with the buyer, Japan Merchant Marine Mitsui Co., Ltd. through the "cloud contract" method. "174,000 cubic meters of LNG carrier construction contract, with an amount of about 7.5 billion yuan.

It is worth mentioning that this is the order with the largest number and the largest contract value for Chinese shipbuilding companies in the field of LNG carrier construction in the past ten years. The "zero breakthrough" in orders for LNG carriers has also injected a strong impetus for China's LNG industry equipment to achieve a historic leap from following and running to leading.

It is understood that the relevant participants of "CNOOC's medium and long-term FOB resource supporting LNG carrier project" also include China National Offshore Oil Corporation and China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited.

This project is also a typical case of the three major central enterprises to ensure national energy security, promote the common development of the LNG industry chain, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

It is understood that the LNG ship signed this time will adopt the "Changheng series" ship type design independently developed by Hudong Zhonghua, which integrates the latest design concept, the best technical equipment, the strongest environmental performance and the most forward-looking.

This type of ship has a total length of 299 meters, a width of 46.4 meters, a depth of 26.25 meters, and a speed of 19.5 knots. It uses X-DF dual-fuel engines, and the latest generation of double skeg lines. It is equipped with GTT's latest generation NO96 Super+ cargo containment system, with fast Good performance, light weight of empty ship, low comprehensive energy consumption, wide ship-shore compatibility, ingenious operation and maintenance, strong adaptability of liquid cargo handling system to different routes, etc.; compared with the previous same ship type, its loading capacity has increased by 800 cubic meters meters, reducing carbon emissions by more than 10 tons per day, the ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI) meets the requirements of the fourth stage ahead of time, and the energy consumption index, environmental performance and reliability have reached the world's top level.

In December 2021, this type of ship obtained the General Approval of Ship Type Design (GDA) issued by four classification societies including American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), Lloyd's Register (LR) and DNV. ), Pre-Classification Accreditation (PCA) and other certificates.

As the core shipbuilding enterprise under China Shipbuilding Corporation, and the only comprehensive manufacturer of LNG industry chain equipment in China, Hudong Zhonghua has been deeply involved in the global LNG storage and transportation equipment market for more than 20 years, and has independently developed "Changqing", "Changjian", "Changan" and "Changxing". "Changheng" and "Changheng" series have a total of 5 generations of LNG ships, and delivered more than 30 large-scale LNG equipment such as LNG carriers, LNG bunkering ships, floating liquefied natural gas storage and regasification units (LNG-FSRU), etc. And five of the world's largest LNG-powered dual-fuel 23,000TEU container ships, R&D and reserves of various types of world-leading LNG equipment including 270,000 cubic meters of LNG ships and LNG power generation ships.

On January 6, Hudong-Zhonghua and China Shipbuilding (Hong Kong) Shipping Leasing Co., Ltd. also renewed the construction order for a 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier.

So far, in the first week of 2022, Hudong-Zhonghua has received a total of 7 LNG carrier orders, achieving a "good start" in undertaking business operations.

At present, Hudong-Zhonghua holds 23 LNG carrier orders and 9 under construction, and the delivery period has been scheduled to 2025.

In the future, under the guidance of the high-quality development strategy of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, Hudong Zhonghua will adhere to technological innovation, concentrate on researching green shipbuilding technology, continuously optimize and improve the design and construction process of LNG ships, and steadily improve the construction level of LNG ships and the entire LNG industry chain. The large-scale independent design and manufacturing capabilities of storage and transportation equipment, and lean management ensure the orderly construction and high-quality delivery of the six LNG ship projects.
