Each year, it weighs nearly 150 billion euros per year on the French economy.

Leading the most expensive sources of noise pollution: road traffic, which represents more than half the cost.

Next comes neighborhood noise, with nearly 18% of the bill.

134 million euros, the cost of years of life lost

In detail, the running cost is a little over 21 billion euros for hospitalizations, sick leave, depreciation of real estate, for example.

Everything else, more than 134 billion euros, is the cost of the number of years of life lost due to lack of sleep, cardiovascular disease, diabetes or depression made worse by noise pollution. .

Speed ​​reduction, one of the solutions

"A year of life in good health is estimated at 132,000 euros. After that, we will multiply the loss of life in good health by this value to find out how many billions of euros are lost each year due to noise", notes Fanny Mietlicki , director of Bruitparif.

Among the profitable measures to fight against this noise pollution, ADEM notes, in particular, the speed reduction of 10 km / hour on expressways and the improvement of the acoustic quality of school buildings.
