Did the prospect of the holidays play a role in this upturn?

Household morale started to rise again in December, Insee revealed on Wednesday.

The indicator - which summarizes household confidence - stands at 100, 2 points more than in November, according to revised figures from the institute, bringing the index up to its long-term average.

The feeling of the French vis-à-vis their past financial situation has increased by 2 points, while that of their future situation has remained stable, specifies the statistics institute.

Fears about unemployment

The proportion of French people who consider it appropriate to make major purchases has also increased, rising above its long-term average.

At the same time, the share of households considering that the standard of living has improved over the last twelve months has increased by 3 points.

With regard to inflation, which maintained its pace at 2.8% in December compared to November, households are slightly less numerous (-1 point) to anticipate a further rise in prices over the next twelve months.

The feeling of the French concerning the rise in prices over the last twelve months is however even clearer than compared to November, which had already shown a very high perception on this subject.

Also among the less optimistic news, the balance of opinion on the possibility of future savings fell by 3 points, and fears about the evolution of unemployment remain very high.
