With investments of more than one billion dollars in two phases

DB World and the Government of Senegal lay the foundation stone to start the construction of the "Ndayan" port

 dbworld, the leading provider of smart logistics services, and the government of Senegal have laid the foundation stone for the start of work on the construction of the new "Ndayane" port project, in light of the concession agreement signed in December 2020 between "db world" and the government of the Republic of Senegal To build and operate a new port in the city of Ndiaen, which will be located 50 kilometers from the current port of Dakar on the Atlantic Ocean.


The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DB World, as well as a group of ministers from the Government of Senegal, heads of institutions and leaders of local communities.


The new project confirms the positive impact of the Emirate of Dubai in supporting infrastructure development projects necessary to stimulate sustainable development trends in the African continent, in light of the existing close cooperation relations with most of the countries of the brown continent on a firm basis of mutual trust and work within constructive partnerships aimed at enabling African countries to accelerate The pace of development and advancing the march of progress, especially at the economic level, while giving the private and semi-governmental sectors the necessary opportunities to activate this cooperation in accordance with the best international practices.   


The amount of investment represented in the development of the new "Ndayan" port amounts to more than one billion US dollars (more than 3.68 billion dirhams) in two phases, which is the largest investment by the "DB World" group in African ports to date, and is also the largest single investment by the private sector in the history of Senegal.



On this occasion, His Excellency Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, stated: “The development of modern and high-quality infrastructure at the port is essential to drive economic growth. With the construction of the new Port of Ndayane, Senegal will have the most modern infrastructure in the world. Ports, which will enhance the position of our country as a trade center and gateway for promoting trade and business in the West African region. This port will provide huge economic opportunities for local companies and create more jobs, as it will enhance our ability to attract foreign investments to Senegal. We are pleased to extend our cooperation with “DB Group” World" in this project, which has already achieved great results with the operation of the container terminal in the port of Dakar."



For his part, His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DB World, said: “Laying the foundation stone today not only marks the start of construction operations, but also marks the beginning of an exceptional stage to transform the vision of His Excellency the Senegalese President into reality. In our role as a major contributor to enabling global trade, we will put our full experience and capabilities into the port project, which will enhance the development trends in Senegal during the next century. We can only thank His Excellency President Sall, his government and the Port Authority for their confidence and belief in us.



The first phase of the port’s development includes the construction of a container terminal with a berth of 840 meters in length, in addition to a 5-km-long sea channel that can accommodate two containers of 336 meters in length at the same time, and handle the largest container ships in the world.

It will increase the container handling capacity by 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent containers annually.

The second phase includes the development of an additional 410-meter container berth.


DB World's plans include developing an economic-industrial zone adjacent to the port and close to Blaise Diagne International Airport, creating an integrated industrial hub for transportation and logistics.
