Dubai Electricity and Water Authority confirmed that, since its establishment on January 1, 1992, it has achieved important achievements that made it one of the best service institutions in the world, providing its services to more than one million customers in Dubai, and it has a world-class infrastructure, while its assets amount to about 200 billion dirhams. and has investments of more than 86 billion dirhams over five years.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said that the authority is working to provide advanced infrastructure according to the highest international specifications, and to raise the capacity and efficiency of production plants and transmission and distribution networks, to provide electricity and water services, according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency and sustainability.

He stressed that the authority's installed production capacity amounted to 13,417 megawatts of electricity, and 490 million gallons of desalinated water per day.

He continued: "The percentage of clean energy in Dubai is about 11.38% of the total energy mix, which represents a great success for the emirate, as it exceeded the percentage set in (Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050), where the target was to provide 7% of the production capacity of energy from clean energy sources. by 2020.”

Al Tayer added, "Dubai achieved a 33% reduction in carbon emissions during 2020, exceeding the target percentage by more than double."

He stressed that the authority achieved superior levels in global competitiveness indicators, which included raising the fuel efficiency of production units to about 90%, and improving production efficiency by 33.41% between 2006 and 2020.

The authority also outperformed elite European and American companies by reducing the percentage of losses in electricity transmission and distribution networks to 3.3%, compared to 6-7% in Europe and the United States.

It was able to achieve the best global results in the rate of electricity cuts per subscriber annually, which amounted to 1.66 minutes, compared to 15 minutes in the European Union, as well as reducing losses in water networks to 5.1% compared to 15% in North America.

Supporting electricity networks at Expo 2020 Dubai

The Authority has allocated 4.26 billion dirhams to support infrastructure projects for electricity and water networks at the Expo 2020 Dubai, in addition to providing the Expo with clean energy from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex.

The authority also installed 19 "Green Charger" stations for charging electric vehicles in multiple sites of "Expo 2020 Dubai".

Highlights for the past 29 years

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex:

It is considered the largest solar energy project in the world in a single site with an independent product system.

The capacity of the solar energy projects that have been operated in the complex is currently 1,527 megawatts using photovoltaic solar panels, and DEWA currently has 1,333 megawatts projects under implementation using photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technologies, in addition to other future stages to reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030. Recording two new Guinness World Records for the tallest solar tower in the world, 262.44 meters high, and the largest power plant using concentrated solar energy with a capacity of 700 megawatts within the fourth phase of the complex.

Innovation and Research Center

The complex includes the Innovation Center, which is a global platform for renewable and clean energy innovations, and the Research and Development Center, to keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and innovate disruptive technologies.

The authority entered the Guinness Book of Records for the first laboratory with 3D printing technology in the world, for the robotics and drones laboratory at the center.

The Authority's Space Program

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority program works to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, including preventive maintenance of the electricity and water networks (planning, production, transmission and distribution), and contributes to enhancing flexibility and agility in monitoring and controlling the electricity and water networks, and accurate and rapid follow-up to the effects of weather phenomena and climate change, including: This includes desalination, in addition to providing a backup system for the network via satellite communications.

The performance and efficiency of the photovoltaic solar panels at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will be monitored through special cameras located on the main satellite.

The project also includes launching supporting satellites for the main satellite, which will be manufactured by Emirati hands at the Research and Development Center.

"Green Hydrogen"

DEWA launched the "Green Hydrogen" project, to produce green hydrogen using solar energy at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

The project was implemented in cooperation between DEWA, Expo 2020 Dubai and Siemens Energy.

Hydropower

The authority is working on implementing innovative projects, the most important of which is a power plant that takes advantage of the stored hydro energy with a capacity of 250 megawatts in Hatta, which is the first of its kind in the Arab Gulf region and has a storage capacity of 1500 megawatt hours and a lifespan of up to 80 years, with investments amounting to about one billion and 421 million dirhams.

The authority is currently studying a project to generate electricity through wind energy in Hatta.

«Dubai Summit»

The authority is implementing the "Dubai Summit" project, which includes the construction of a 5.4-kilometre cable car, to transport tourists from the "Hatta Dam" area to the "Umm Al-Nusour" summit in Hatta, the highest natural peak in the Emirate of Dubai, with a height of up to 1,300 meters above the surface level. The sea, and the “Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls” project, which includes exploiting the slope of the upper dam, using it as a natural waterfall, and developing the area and transforming it into recreational spaces, cafes and restaurants.

Jebel Ali Complex

The Jebel Ali Energy Production and Water Desalination Complex of the Authority is one of the main pillars for providing the Emirate of Dubai with reliable, efficient and high quality electricity and water services.

The authority entered the Guinness Book of Records for the largest energy production facility using natural gas in one site, with a capacity of 9547 megawatts of electricity, in the complex, which includes two main sections for energy production and water desalination.

commercial activities

The authority has other commercial activities related to its main scope of work, and its most prominent subsidiaries are: Emirates Corporation for Central Cooling Systems “Empower” and “Mai Dubai”;

Etihad Energy Services Company “Etihad ESCO”, “Digital DEWA”, Moro (Data Center for Integrated Solutions), Jumeirah International Energy Company, Shuaa Energy 1 Company, Shuaa Energy Holding Company 2, Hassyan Energy Holding Company, Noor Energy Holding Company 1, and Shuaa Energy Holding 3, investments by the Dubai Green Fund, and Forward Ventures.
