The local financial markets will resume trading at the beginning of the week, today (Monday), coinciding with the entry into force of the decision to change the date of the weekly holiday in the UAE, as of today.

In addition, the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange index succeeded in leading the Arab market indices for the year 2021, with an annual increase of 68%, the highest in its history at all, while the Dubai market index recorded a rise of 28%, ranking second, according to the expert in financial markets, Waddah Al-Taha, who also confirmed to "Emirates Today", that "the markets are still maintaining the optimism that prevailed last year, with the expectation of more liquidity flows, especially in the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange."

He explained that "there are two important factors that support the upward trend of the markets, the first is the annual corporate results, which are expected to be positive and good in most sectors, and the second, the new listings expected in the first quarter of 2022, which will give the two markets great impetus, diversity and additional liquidity."

And Al-Taha stated, "The new dates for the financial markets, in conjunction with the change in the government holiday in the UAE, are in line with the maturity and expansion of the two markets, mimic the dates of their global counterparts, and eliminate the anxiety that prevails among investors during Friday and Saturday, as a result of the closure of local markets while global markets are open. He pointed out that “many speculations were affecting the trades as a result, and sometimes negative sales were made and unthoughtful decisions only, because the closures of the global markets were negative,” stressing that “the new dates will eliminate all of this and achieve great flexibility, and enable Investors are allowed to deal on a daily basis and not based on the closing of the global market yesterday, for example.”

• Markets still maintain the optimism that prevailed in 2021.
