The company revealed in a statement that the new airport building, which began construction in 2012, will accommodate, once it is opened, up to 45 million passengers annually.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: "For 40 years, Abu Dhabi International Airport has connected the world with Abu Dhabi, highlighting the emirate as a leading destination for tourism, trade and economy."
