Tesla recalls half a million cars over safety issues

Tesla will recall more than 475,000 of its Model 3 and S electric cars to address issues with its rear-view camera and trunk that increase the risk of crashes, the US road safety agency said.

Tesla shares fell 1.1 percent in trading prior to the market's opening on Thursday.

The US electric car maker will recall 356,309 Model 3s produced between 2017 and 2020 to address rear-view camera issues and 119,009 Model S cars for front trunk lid issues.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said, "Disruption of the rear camera display may affect the driver's rear view and increase the risk of collision."

She added that the company is not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths related to problems related to its Model 3 and S cars.
