Michael Lohscheller is leaving the Vietnamese car manufacturer Vinfast after only six months.

As the company confirms at the request of the FAZ, Lohscheller is returning to Europe “for personal reasons”.

He moved to Vietnam in the summer after he had previously given up or had to give up the management of the Rüsselsheim car manufacturer Opel.

Since then, Opel has been led by Uwe Hochgeschurtz, who moved there from Renault Germany.

Lohscheller was to lead the Vinfast Global car division in the private conglomerate Vingroup and lead to international expansion with its electric cars.

The ambitious plan to attack Tesla, among other things, is still in its infancy.

Vinfast has so far mainly been active in its home market and is trying its luck in particular with a new SUV, which of course hardly stands out from the crowd in terms of appearance and technology.

The company also makes electric buses and scooters.

The largest shareholder in the Vingroup is the billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong.

At the time, Lohscheller said he was drawn to the growth opportunities.

Maybe they're not that big or further away than you thought.

The position as head of the auto division is taken over by the Vietnamese Le Thi Thu Thuy, who is already Vice Chairwoman in the Vingroup.
