<Reporter> The

Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that it will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss whether to approve the emergency use of a treatment for COVID-19.

At the request of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has been reviewing whether Pfizer's Paxrovid and MSD's Lagevrio will be approved for emergency use.

The government is planning to secure at least 542,000 doses of edible treatment for COVID-19 and make it available to domestic patients by the end of January next year.

The increase in the number of COVID-19 patients, which climbed to the 7,000 level, has slowed somewhat compared to last week.

Yesterday, the number of new corona19 confirmed cases was 5,419, recording the 5,000 level for the second day.

It seems to have been influenced by the gradual speeding up of the third dose of the vaccine, especially among the elderly, and the decrease in contact, such as year-end gatherings due to strengthening social distancing.

The problem is gastritis.

As of 00:00 today, there were 1,81 cases of severe severe cases, exceeding 1,000 for the sixth consecutive day.

The bed situation is already limiting.

The utilization rate of critically ill beds is 77.7% nationwide and 82.5% in the metropolitan area, which is already saturated, but increased by 0.5%p and 0.3%p, respectively, from the previous day.

[Chun Eun-mi/Professor of Pulmonology at Ewha Womans University Mok-dong Hospital: Treatment is not available in the early stages and many people are staying at home (in treatment) and miss the treatment time. It's good if you get better treatment.] The

government expects that the number of severe cases and deaths will decrease from this week as the number of new

infections

is decreasing.
