The Central Bank announced that the 50-dirham banknote made of "polymer" is an official currency, and it is circulating alongside the banknote currently in circulation of the same denomination.

The Central Bank stated that the 50-dirham banknote was distributed to banks and exchange houses in the country.

The Central Bank had recently launched a new 50-dirham banknote on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Union, in commemoration of the exploits of the late founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the first generation of rulers of the Emirates, may God bless them all, in fulfillment of their dedication, and in gratitude for their historical role in Unification of the state under one banner.

The polymer banknotes are more durable and sustainable than traditional banknotes, and last two or more times than their cotton counterparts, and can be completely recycled, thus contributing to efforts to reduce the environmental footprint.

The aesthetic characteristics of this version appear in the distinctive design of the banknote in different shades of violet, and "fluorescent marks" in blue in the middle in the form of the state's visual media identity, and a mixture of drawings and inscriptions implemented using advanced intaglio printing techniques.

In this issue, the Central Bank was keen to maintain its permanent approach, by adding prominent symbols in Braille to help blind and visually impaired customers identify the value of the banknote.
