Stingless fish will be expected to be on the dinner table. The team of Professor Gao Zexia from the Fisheries College of Huazhong Agricultural University has found the gene that controls the fish bones.

Since 2012, Professor Gao Zexia has devoted himself to the research of thornless fish.

At the end of 2019, the team discovered a major gene in zebrafish that plays a major role in regulating the growth of fish bones.

At present, the team of Gao Zexia and the team of Academician Gui Jianfang of the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have tested knockout of the major genes that regulate the growth of fish bones in bream, grass carp and silver crucian carp.

The obtained first-generation hybrid (F0 generation) spineless fish grow well, have normal morphology, and have no difference in habits from ordinary thorny fish. At present, the research is still in further depth.

As the research progresses, stingless fish are expected to be on people's tables in the future.
