Russian estimates of the amount needed to revive the Syrian economy

On the sidelines of the Astana format talks, the Russian presidential envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, said that the funds needed to revive the economic and social situation in Syria exceed $800 billion.

Lavrentiev added that devastation reigns in Syria, and according to some estimates, the value of rebuilding this state is 600 billion dollars, and according to other estimates - 800 billion dollars, and perhaps much more.

After 11 years of armed confrontation, the Syrian government has exhausted most of its financial resources.

It will be very difficult to overcome this situation, without effective assistance from the international community.

Lavrentiev expressed his hope that projects will be implemented to supply gas via a pipeline from Egypt to Lebanon through Syrian territory, and electricity from Jordan to Lebanon via Syria.

The 17th round of negotiations on the "Astana" format for a settlement in Syria, which will last for two days, was launched in Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan, with the participation of the delegations of Iran, Russia and Turkey, in addition to the delegations of the Syrian government, the armed Syrian opposition and the United Nations.
