It was found that Japan Post was used by nearly 300 postmasters nationwide when requesting the support of parliamentarians recommended by the "National Postmasters Association" using the personal information of customers obtained from their work.

The company reported to the government's Personal Information Protection Commission that there was a risk of legal violations.

In Japan Post, the directors of some post offices distributed the questionnaires purchased at the expense of the company to the supporters of parliamentarians, etc., and the politics of more than 18,000 post office directors nationwide. We conducted a questionnaire about our activities.

As a result, 705 directors answered, "I have asked post office users to support the activities of the directors' association."

In addition, 297 of them will use the customer's personal information obtained through operations such as mail delivery to visit their homes and ask them to support the members of the Diet recommended by the directors' association, or to obtain the customer's consent. It means that the name was posted on the supporter list of the directors' association.

Japan Post reported to the government's Personal Information Protection Commission on the 22nd that such activities may violate the law.

In the future, we will investigate the situation in more detail and consider measures such as internal disposal and apology to users.
