The price of hotels near some of the postgraduate entrance examination sites increased by 2~3 times, and some even increased by nearly 10 times

Must go up every exam?

Hotel independent pricing does not mean willful price increases

Many places have introduced measures to control the price of postgraduate entrance examination room

News from our newspaper (reporter Zhang Qiang) December 25-27, the preliminary examination of the national postgraduate enrollment examination in 2022 will be held as scheduled.

For 4.57 million candidates, "where do they live during the exam" has become a question they must plan ahead.

"A budget hotel with less than 200 yuan on weekdays has risen to more than 1,000 yuan during the postgraduate entrance examination." Recently, the price of postgraduate entrance examination rooms in Jinan, Shandong has attracted attention.

During the various large-scale exams, do the hotels around the test sites generally increase their prices?

Is the price increase the law of the market or is it driving up prices?

In this regard, a reporter from the Workers’ Daily conducted an investigation.

Through random visits and online searches, the reporter found that in Qingdao, Shandong, the price of a budget hotel with a daily price of more than 100 yuan near the test center rose to 200-350 yuan during the postgraduate entrance examination; in Nanjing, Jiangsu, Guangzhou, Guangdong and other places, some hotels near the test center Prices have risen by 2 to 3 times, and some have even risen by nearly 10 times.

In this regard, the person in charge of the hotel explained that the time for the postgraduate entrance examination coincides with Christmas, and the demand for rooms has increased significantly, and it is reasonable to increase the price appropriately.

Due to the increase in the price of temporary reservations, some candidates are also faced with the situation of cancellation of orders after they have successfully booked in advance at the normal price on weekdays.

Candidate Xin Lan booked a room price of 168 yuan per night a month ago. A week later, he received a notice from the hotel to cancel the order. At this time, the platform showed that the original room had risen to 438 yuan per night.

Xin Lan believes that the hotel is forced to "refund the order" in order to obtain greater profits.

Not only the postgraduate entrance examination, but also the hotels surrounding the test sites during various vocational qualification examinations have seen price increases.

Many people believe that compared with hotels, candidates have low bargaining power and small room for choice. The behavior of hotels sitting on the ground and raising prices needs to be rectified.

But some people think that it is natural to adjust prices according to demand: "Hotel prices will also increase during peak tourist seasons, and the normal increase is the law of the market."

Some experts said that hotels have independent pricing power. If the price increase is within a reasonable range and the price is clearly marked, it belongs to the scope of market regulation.

If the increase is too large, even forcing consumers who booked at normal prices to cancel their orders, the supervisory authority can order rectification through interviews, warnings, and other methods.

Li Ran, a lawyer at Shandong Jinhaisheng Law Firm, believes that price increases are market behaviors and are related to supply and demand. However, the unilateral breach of contracts, forced transactions, and price hikes by operators are suspected of breaking the law and infringing on consumers' right of independent choice and fair transactions.

"Operators who provide goods or services to consumers should abide by social ethics, operate with integrity, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. Autonomous pricing power does not mean making money arbitrarily, nor is it arbitrarily raising prices. Operators must abide by the spirit of contract and the principle of good faith. Li Ran suggested that if consumers find price violations, they can call the "12315" hotline to complain and report.

In response to the rapid increase in hotel prices near the test sites, the Shandong Provincial Development and Reform Commission issued a document requesting the implementation of price increase control measures for hotel room prices. If the price rises by more than 100% of the normal average price, it will be investigated and punished according to price bidding.

After the notice was issued, the price of local postgraduate entrance examination room reservations tended to normal.

It is understood that many places have introduced measures to control the price of postgraduate entrance examination room.
