Domestic shipments of digital home appliances such as TVs and car navigation systems fell 16.5% from the same month last year, which was at a high level due to the demand for nesting due to the new coronavirus.

However, the rate of decline narrowed from October, as the infection situation has settled down and sales at stores are recovering.

According to JEITA = Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, which is made by electric appliances manufacturers, the domestic shipment value of digital home appliances was 111.6 billion yen last month, a decrease of 16.5% from the same month last year.

This is due to the fact that the demand for nesting has run its course due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, and the shipment value has fallen below the same month last year for the fifth consecutive month.

By product, "audio-related equipment" decreased by 7.7%, "video equipment" such as TVs and recorders decreased by 18.1%, and "automobile-related equipment" such as car navigation systems decreased by 15.8%.

On the other hand, the decrease in shipment value is 8 points from October due to the fact that the infection situation has settled down and the number of people visiting home electronics mass retailers is increasing, and the sales of car navigation systems have bottomed out due to the recovery trend of automobile production. It has shrunk too much.

The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said, "The infection of the new corona has subsided, and sales promotion activities at the sales floor are becoming more active toward the year-end and New Year holidays. We will continue to monitor the infection situation in the future."
