In the auction of the 2021 Fengjie navel orange "mother tree orange" picking right, the Fengjie navel orange "mother tree"-the "Fengyuan 72-1" mother tree with a starting price of 10,000 yuan for the 2021 picking right, was finally awarded the first prize after several rounds of bidding. The fruit farmer sold it for 138,000 yuan.
According to reports, the Fengjie navel orange originated from the Washington navel orange introduced in 1953.
After nearly 60 years of continuous optimization and improvement, the 10 seedlings introduced have cultivated Fengjie's unique variety "Fengyuan 72-1".
Today, Fengjie navel orange "mother tree orange" has bred tens of millions of navel orange fruit trees, creating the miracle that "one tree makes 300,000 people rich".
The "Fengyuan 72-1" mother tree that auctioned the right to pick navel oranges on the same day was the best-performing and stable-yielding tree among the 10 seedlings that year.
Generally speaking, a navel orange tree produces more than 400 navel oranges per year, but under the careful care of Fengjie fruit farmers, "mother tree oranges" only retain the most essence and perfect navel oranges, and only produce 200 navel oranges per year.
Compared with ordinary Fengjie navel oranges, "mother tree oranges" are more delicious. The sweetness is far superior to other subtrees, and the taste is crispy and tender.
