The Federal Tax Authority organized field tours of self-service machines designated for tax refunds for tourists at Dubai International Airport, to ensure the readiness of the value-added tax refund system for tourists, in line with the Authority’s strategy to provide services that live up to the aspirations of taxpayers, and to confirm the commitment to work in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. (41) of 2018 regarding the implementation of the value-added tax refund system for tourists.

During the tour, the Director-General of the Federal Tax Authority, Khaled Al-Bustani, was briefed on the progress of the tax refund service for tourists, the duration of the service, and how easy it is for tourists, stressing that the advantages of the services provided provide ease and speed in conducting tax refunds for tourists on their purchases during their stay in the country with electronic steps. Through it, determining the refundable taxes, ensuring that the purchases are accompanied by the tourist, and then refunding the tax with complete accuracy.

He added that the value-added tax refund system for tourists aims to support the tourism sector in the country, as it is one of the main tributaries of its economy.

He said: "The Federal Tax Authority confirms its continuous commitment to providing value-added tax refund system services, in accordance with the highest standards of performance in the world, ensuring transparency, accuracy and speed in procedures and mechanisms, which contributes to strengthening the leading role of the UAE, a major destination on the global tourism map." .

Self-service

During the visit, they reviewed the progress of operations, and ensured the high readiness of the system, including “self-service machines” that provide unique benefits, and through which the tourist can recover the tax completely electronically.

The devices were provided at the departure points covered by the system, where the tourist submits tax invoices for his purchases from the sales outlets registered within the system for automated devices, accompanied by his passport and credit card.

He can refund the tax without a maximum limit by transferring the refundable tax value to the tourist’s credit card account, and in the event of a cash refund request, the maximum refund per day is 10,000 dirhams.

Through its partnership with the service provider “Planet”, the Federal Tax Authority provides “self-service machines” at air, land and sea departure ports, in addition to many commercial centers and hotels covered by the electronic system, to refund value-added tax for tourists, in the interest of the authority to provide facilities It enriches the customer experience, and provides more options for tourists through various means and mechanisms.
