Product development, every link must be the ultimate

 【Excellent Engineer】

"Keep improving," "do it yourself," and "work without the concept of time". This is the evaluation of Qiu Shuaihui from colleagues who are familiar with him.

Qiu Shuaihui is the Deputy General Manager of the Civil Products Division of Harbin Xinguang Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd.

In 2010, not long after he graduated from Northeast Agricultural University and joined the company, Qiu Shuaihui encountered a tough bone.

In a major national defense project undertaken by the company, there was a core technology that could not be overcome during the development of the optoelectronic payload. It was in a stalemate for more than half a year. The scientific research team was stressed and morale was relatively low.

At this time, Qiu Shuaihui took the initiative to ask Ying to be the person in charge of the project's scientific research.

Optical experiment is a very complex system, involving multiple disciplines such as optics, mechanics, control, and image processing.

On the one hand, he starts with small technical details and strives for perfection in every link. On the other hand, he inspires the team of scientific researchers and makes everyone twist together.

When a technician encounters a problem, he will help debug or coordinate the company to provide technical support.

Some people work overtime for a long time and there are no one to take care of the elderly and children at home, so he sends his colleagues to help to relieve his worries.

"There is no concept of time at all at work. For three months, he is like a spinning top, living and eating in the laboratory with the research team. Even in the hardest time, there is no discouragement and only thinking about how to solve the problem. This enthusiasm has greatly boosted the morale of the scientific research team." said Liu Dong, the dispatcher of the General Department of Xinguang Optoelectronics Civil Products Division.

"Higher precision and smaller error!" Because of his excellence in every technical detail, he appears to be very strict in his work, even a little uncomfortable.

Xu Shouguang, the deputy director of the Product Development Department of the Civil Products Division, who has worked with him for 11 years, cited a small matter in his work to reporters: optical lenses and structural parts have a certain deviation after outputting the image. It's still dozens of times thinner. In terms of overall image quality, within the error range, it has already reached the standard.

But Qiu Shuaihui was very careful about the details and insisted on requiring the scientific research team to re-adjust with higher accuracy.

The result proves that after reducing the error, the image quality is still not ideal and needs to be more precise.

Xu Shouguang said frankly that this incident touched him a lot: "For precision devices, small deviations are often overlooked, which accumulate and eventually cause the failure of the entire system. In scientific research, every link needs to be done as much as possible. Extreme, not tolerant of sloppy."

There are too many similar examples.

Qiu Shuaihui's pursuit of details and hard work in scientific research have infected everyone around him.

From not understanding to agreeing, he led the scientific research team to overcome a number of technical problems. The projects he participated in or undertaken have won the first and second prizes of National Defense Science and Technology Inventions, and successfully developed the first set of thin film radar/optical composites in China. Simulation system, and obtained a number of invention patents.

In 2018, Qiu Shuaihui was transferred to the Civil Products Division and undertook the research and development of many important scientific and technological projects in the direction of civilian products.

In the face of the sudden new crown pneumonia epidemic, Qiu Shuaihui, who wanted to do something to fight the epidemic, planned to develop a new type of far-infrared thermometer.

In 2020, on the second day of the new year, he called his colleagues one by one and quickly formed a team.

This is a research and development race against time.

Design, experiment, test, improve... Every morning, after the production workers have a break, Qiu Shuaihui also leads the scientific research team to review the technical problems encountered.

Sleepy, just squint on the mat in the corner of the laboratory for a while; hungry, take a bite of instant noodles and ham.

The team members said that the most refreshing drink at that time.

"During the Spring Festival, it was supposed to be a family reunion and joyous atmosphere. I saw the city where I lived changed from the usual bustling to quiet and depressed. I felt very uncomfortable. I wanted to make the product come in handy as soon as possible." Qiu Shuaihui said.

In only 5 days, the new thermometer was successfully developed.

It can measure temperature in a long distance, non-contact within a radius of 30 meters, and the accuracy can reach within 0.1 degrees Celsius.

This thermometer quickly and powerfully supports body temperature screening in crowded places such as airports, hospitals, train stations, schools, etc., and contributes scientific and technological strength to the prevention and control of the epidemic.

In addition to human body thermometers, Qiu Shuaihui is also committed to the development and mass production and promotion of intelligent substation inspection systems, forest fire prevention, crawler robots, disinfection robots, and corridor robots.

Even when he took up a management position, he was still personally involved in many basic tasks.

One winter, Qiu Shuaihui led a team of technicians to a substation in Heilongjiang to do the installation and test of the intelligent transmission video inspection system equipment. The transmission tower was deep in the mountain, and there was no way for cars to reach the foot of the mountain. He could only walk.

The extreme cold of more than 30 degrees below zero made people unable to open their eyes with the wind blowing. A group of people carried dozens of kilograms of equipment, wading through the snow, and marched hard, and ice was hung in all parts of their bodies that breathed.

"When I left, I sweated, and I installed and debugged under the power transmission tower. It took more than three hours for one station. It was freezing cold inside and out." When it comes to this experience, Xu Shouguang has never remembered it. Equipment debugging is a delicate task and cannot be worn. The gloves, including Qiu Shuaihui, the team's scientific research personnel have suffered from frostbite, and now they still faintly itchy.

"Many transmission lines are located in deep mountains, which is a chore for line patrol workers. In extreme weather such as blizzards, people can't get in at all. Once a power outage occurs, it will have a great impact on people's lives and enterprise production. Intelligent inspection system application After that, it will automatically inspect and warn, and the problems can be found in time." Qiu Shuaihui said.

After embarking on a management position, Qiu Shuaihui is not only responsible for the front-end technology research and development, but also the later market operations.

Many colleagues persuaded him: "It is enough for a technical team to get the data back on site, don't suffer this crime." He said: "Only when you use the front line and understand the first state of the product, can you know where the product is going in the future. ; Only by seeing what difficulties the product encounters, can we know what kind of resources are provided for you to coordinate; only by understanding the application status of the product, can we know the scientific research direction of the entire team."

From transmission towers to observation towers, from extreme cold to tropical, from deserts to forests, from sophisticated national defense technology research to social and people's livelihood services, he has been working hard on the road of technological innovation.

"For the strong national defense, we are not only witnesses, but also participants. How lucky!" Qiu Shuaihui felt proud and proud from the heart when he saw the pictures on TV during the National Day military parade. "The company is an enterprise with Harbin Institute of Technology genes. The spirit and tradition of Harbin Institute of Technology’s "800 Heroes" to serve the country through scientific research has had a profound impact on the company and myself. Being able to use what I have learned to do something for the country and society is the happiness of scientific researchers, but also the mission and responsibility."
