“The package includes provisions on the efficient use of gas storage facilities and on voluntary joint purchases,” RIA Novosti quotes the text of the EC press release.
According to the document, EU member states should include an analysis of their storage levels and potential risks in the overall risk assessment at the regional level.
“When risks are identified, they will have to introduce countermeasures from a number of options, including minimum storage obligations, bidding or auctions,” the text says.
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Union would study the issue of creating strategic gas reserves.
