China News Service, Beijing, December 15 (Reporter Yan Xiaohong) China National Nuclear Corporation disclosed on the 15th that on December 15, 2021, Qinshan Nuclear Power has become a nuclear power base with safe power generation for 30 years. It has been operating safely for about 140 reactors and 9 units. The operating performance has been stable at the world's advanced level for many years.

At present, China's nuclear power industry has achieved leapfrog development, and at the same time, it is also ushering in unprecedented development opportunities.

According to reports, on December 15, 1991, China’s first self-designed and self-built nuclear power plant, the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, was connected to the grid for power generation, ending the history of non-nuclear power in mainland China. China’s nuclear power started here and China became the seventh in the world. A country that can design and build nuclear power plants on its own.

On January 30, 2021, China’s independent third-generation nuclear power technology, Hualong No. 1, the world’s first reactor-China National Nuclear Corporation's Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 5, was put into commercial operation, marking China’s ranks among the world’s forefronts in the field of third-generation nuclear power technology and striding forward to building a nuclear industry powerhouse Take a solid step.

On December 15, 2021, the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant celebrates its 30th anniversary of safe power generation. This move has led the overall technological and management level of China’s nuclear industry to achieve a historic leap. The "national name card" of independent innovation capabilities.

China National Nuclear Corporation stated that in the past 30 years, China National Nuclear Corporation has built a number of large-scale nuclear power bases in Qinshan, Tianwan, Fuqing, Changjiang, Sanmen, etc., and has achieved large-scale development of nuclear power.

At present, there are 52 nuclear power units in operation in Mainland China, with an installed capacity of 53.48 million kilowatts, ranking third in the world; 18 nuclear power units under construction with an installed capacity of 19.02 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world.

The increase in the scale of the nuclear power industry not only provides a safe, clean, efficient, and stable power supply for economic and social development, but also effectively promotes the system capacity building of the entire nuclear industry chain.

Qinshan Nuclear Power, which has achieved safe power generation for 30 years, currently has 9 operating units with a total installed capacity of 6.6 million kilowatts and an annual power generation of about 52 billion kilowatt-hours.

As of December 15, 2021, the Qinshan Nuclear Power Base has accumulated more than 690 billion kilowatt-hours of power generation, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 653 million tons, and planting trees in 433 West Lake scenic spots.

The multi-purpose utilization of nuclear energy is also continuously benefiting people’s livelihood. It took less than 4 months from the start of construction on July 28, 2021 to November 15, 2021. Qinshan Nuclear Power completed the construction of the first nuclear energy heating project in the Jiangnan region and explored "Qinshan Plan" for central heating in winter in Jiangnan area.

China National Nuclear Corporation said that at present, "active, safe and orderly development of nuclear power" has become an important means for China to optimize its energy structure, ensure the security of energy supply, achieve its "dual carbon" goal, and respond to climate change.

By 2025, China National Nuclear Corporation's operating power installed capacity will grow in an orderly and steadily manner; the multi-purpose utilization of nuclear energy will open a new phase, the output value of nuclear power technology services will be "doubled", and nuclear power operation performance will continue to maintain the world's leading position.

By 2035, China National Nuclear Corporation will basically achieve the goal of building an advanced nuclear science and technology industrial system and promoting China to become a nuclear industry powerhouse.
