China News Service, Chongqing, December 14 (Reporter Liu Xian) Recently, the "8D Magic City" Chongqing has another popular network of "Wukong Interchange" that resembles a monkey face.

The person in charge of design Gong Xia told reporters on the 14th that this interchange is professionally called "butterfly interchange".

It is reported that the first phase of the new project "Qinglongzui Overpass East-West Two-way Auxiliary Road Bridge" of Science Avenue in Western (Chongqing) Science City has been successfully completed, forming an interesting picture with Qinglongzui Overpass, which looks like a monkey face, which has attracted the attention and enthusiasm of netizens. Discussion.

Why is there such a design?

How is it designed?

According to Gong Xia, the chief engineer of roads, the design leader of Science Avenue, and the design leader of Qinglongzui Interchange, Lin Tongpi International (China) Road Division, this "Wukong Interchange" is a "butterfly interchange" formed by Science Avenue and Gaoxin Avenue. It is one of the hub and gateway interchanges of Science City.

Looking down on the "Wukong Interchange" from the air, its "eyes" are two left-turning circular ramps, and the two contours of the left and right "faces" are left-turning semi-directional ramps. They were designed as early as 2013.

Gong Xia said that he didn't think this interchange looked like a "Wukong" before. It was only recently that the "Qinglongzui Overpass East and West Two-way Auxiliary Road Bridge" penetrated, so that the "forehead" and "chin" lines of the "Wukong Interchange" appeared.

The two auxiliary road bridges are the newly added design of Science Avenue. The newly added "forehead" and "chin" not only penetrate the auxiliary road system of Science Avenue, but also the pedestrian and slow traffic systems within the interchange.

Gong Xia said that there are similar "butterfly interchanges" in other places in Chongqing, but because there are no upper and lower auxiliary road bridges like the "Wukong Interchange", they don't look like "Wukong".
