Val Thorens (Savoie) is preparing to host a record attempt on Tuesday that could mark a milestone in automotive history.

A Hyundai Nexo equipped with a fossil-fueled engine, powered only by hydrogen, will try to run for six hours.

The event will take place on the resort's ice circuit, says

Le Dauphiné Libéré

.

A demanding environment

Those responsible for the circuit have decided to create an "international record center for low-carbon vehicles", explained the site manager, Olivier Pignon.

The circuit is all the more suited to the challenge as it has "the particularity of being the highest in Europe and adding up to the extreme conditions", he said.

The layout is made available to car manufacturers wishing to test the performance of their non-polluting models.

For its first use for this purpose, the site will allow Hyundai to prove that its hydrogen Nexo can be used efficiently on a daily basis in a less demanding context.

This will require the car to pass the six-hour mark.
