Iran: teachers in the streets to protest against inflation and low salaries

New demonstrations by teachers took place again across Iran to protest the deteriorating economic situation and low wages.

A movement widely followed.

More than a million people work in the education sector, half of whom are teachers.

Teachers stand up to end discrimination

 " chanted the crowd of protesters in Shiraz, according to a video posted on social networks.

According to the teachers' union, demonstrations took place in around 60 cities across the country, including Tehran where demonstrators gathered in front of Parliament.

They are protesting against

the worsening economic situation

.

In fact, inflation officially exceeds 45%, while the increase in the price of everyday consumer products is even higher.

Teachers are asking for an increase in their salary but also that of retirees.

The almost daily increase in the prices of many products has had the effect of impoverishing the middle classes, especially the teaching body.

Identical protests have taken place in recent weeks as Parliament has just started examining the New Year's budget.

According to the local press, with the new budget, the situation should hardly improve.
