DB World and Congo sign a final agreement to develop Banana Port

DB World Group, a leading provider of smart logistics services, and the Government of the Congo have signed a cooperation agreement for the development of the Banana Deep Sea Port.

The group said in a statement today that the agreement was signed in Kinshasa in the presence of the Congolese President, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, and the Chairman and CEO of DB World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.

The cooperation agreement was preceded by the signing of a memorandum of conditions earlier this year between DB World and the government of Congo, which outlined the agreed amendments to the original contract signed in 2018.

This will pave the way for DB World to begin construction within 12 months of Congo's first deep sea port, Banana, on the country's 37 km long Atlantic coastline.

The development of Banana Port will bring a huge reduction in the cost and time for the country's trade, as it will attract more direct stop orders from major ships from Asia and Europe.

This development will directly benefit the Central Congo region in terms of economic development, as the port will attract foreign direct investment to neighboring regions and stimulate local trade and the economy in general.

The "DB World" group will develop a quay initially 600 meters in length with a draft of 18 meters in depth, which will be able to handle the largest existing vessels.

The port has a container handling capacity of 450,000 TEUs per year, with a 30-hectare yard.
