The government has decided to freeze electricity and city gas rates for next year.

The government is reviewing plans to unveil a policy to freeze central utility bills such as electricity and city gas while announcing economic policy directions for next year soon.

As global raw material prices soared, losses from public institutions such as Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea Gas Corporation are accumulating.

As public utility rate increases such as electricity and city gas act as a trigger for other price increases, we are concerned about a situation in which prices will rise out of control if we allow a utility rate increase.

The government also plans to suppress increases in public transportation rates such as subways, city buses and taxis, as well as local public utility rates such as water and sewage rates and volume-based envelope rates as much as possible.
