Former McKinsey boss Dominic Barton is giving up his ambassadorial post.

Barton announced that he would step down from his position at the end of the year.

The Canadian was appointed Ambassador of Canada to China after his time as McKinsey boss (2009 to 2018).

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is now saying goodbye to him for having helped Barton as ambassador to the release of two Canadians in China - the case had severely strained relations between Canada and China for several years and was a top priority for Barton as ambassador .

The two men were officially accused of espionage in China, but many Western politicians saw it as an arbitrary retaliation by China against Canada.

However, McKinsey's inglorious role in the American opioid tragedy also fell during his tenure, when McKinsey advisors helped aggressively commercialize the addictive pain reliever, Oxycontin.
