On November 30, the Beijing Municipal Government Information Office held a series of press conferences on the ecological environment of the Beijing host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
Gao Dawei, deputy director and spokesperson of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscaping and Greening, introduced that by the end of 2021, Beijing has launched a new round of afforestation and greening of one million acres in 4 years, accumulatively increasing afforestation and greening area of 850,000 acres, providing for the realization of the carbon neutral goal. According to the actual measurement and calculation analysis of 160 monitoring sample plots in the city by professional departments, from January 2018 to August 2021, more than 500,000 tons of carbon sinks have been generated.
These carbon sinks will be donated by the Beijing Municipal Government to the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee to support the realization of the carbon neutral goal of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
