Subsidies for purchasing EVs = electric vehicles are expected to double to a maximum of 800,000 yen.

The government wants to raise the subsidy to the level of Europe and the United States and promote the electrification of cars.

The government has included in this year's supplementary budget the cost of increasing subsidies for those who purchased EVs and the like.

Specifically, in the case of EVs, the amount will be doubled to a maximum of 800,000 yen, and for plug-in hybrid vehicles, the amount will be increased 2.5 times to a maximum of 500,000 yen.

In addition, up to 500,000 yen will be subsidized for mini vehicle-sized EVs that are planned to be introduced by automakers in the future.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the maximum subsidy of 800,000 yen for EVs is about the same level as in Europe and the United States, and if the supplementary budget is approved, it will be implemented from around next spring.

However, in order not to lead to a refrain from buying, the amount of purchases accepted at car dealers after November 26th will be subject to the increase in subsidy.

EVs accounted for less than 1% of new car sales in Japan last year, but we would like to promote the electrification of cars by raising the amount of subsidies.
