Officials in various investment sectors said that the Corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic changed the directions of entrepreneurship projects, by shedding more light on other categories of projects that formed new growth opportunities.

They added to "Emirates Today" on the sidelines of the fifth edition of the "Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival 2021", which recently concluded its activities, that the pandemic has enhanced opportunities for the growth of projects in the food sectors, delivery platforms, logistics and technology.

The Executive Director of the Sharjah Foreign Direct Investment Office "Invest in Sharjah", Muhammad Juma Al-Musharkh, said that the "Covid 19" pandemic had different effects on the entrepreneurship sectors.

He continued, "Just as the pandemic imposed challenges on a number of projects, it formed opportunities for the growth of other projects, most notably those working in the manufacture and trade of food and beverage products of various categories, in addition to logistical services, such as delivering orders and transporting items, in addition to projects working in services. And technical solutions, which have accompanied the changes imposed by the pandemic on society, and the subsequent transformation of the activities of many companies to work remotely, in addition to the expansion of remote study systems.”

He added that the effects imposed by the pandemic on entrepreneurship projects have changed the orientations of many projects, to fit more in line with the requirements and variables of markets and areas that have been witnessing growth in demand during recent periods, noting that projects that depend on the knowledge economy and sustainability activities are witnessing a growth rate. mixed in recent times.

Al-Musharkh indicated that the incentives and facilities launched by government agencies in the country during the pandemic period have contributed significantly to supporting entrepreneurship projects to confront the obstacles and challenges imposed by the pandemic, and give them the ability to continue and resume their business.

He stressed that the country's distinction in the availability of many business incubators, and its markets providing many opportunities for growth and global launch, similar to what happened with many companies that took the country as the headquarters for the launch of their operations, contributed to attracting many entrepreneurship projects, despite the challenges The persistence of the pandemic.

Al-Musharkh pointed out that most of the new projects take into account the changes imposed by the pandemic in the markets, which is a positive change that keeps pace with the requirements of the markets in a more flexible manner.

In turn, the head of operations at the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority "Shurooq", Ahmed Al-Qusair, said that the pandemic has different effects on entrepreneurship projects, as it has shed more light on a number of projects, and contributed to an increase in orientation to other projects.

He added that one of the most prominent projects that the pandemic has contributed to increasing demand is related to the supply of food and beverage products, whether in the hospitality sectors or in other sectors.

He pointed out that the pandemic showed the importance of expanding hospitality or hotel facilities according to “boutique” or privacy systems, and witnessed demand even in light of the pandemic, due to its privacy and distance.

He believed that Expo 2020 Dubai has significant positive repercussions, whether in supporting the growth of entrepreneurship projects, or in supporting tourism activity in the country, which in turn provides multiple opportunities for entrepreneurship projects related to tourism and hospitality.
