Domestic shipments of so-called white goods such as air conditioners and refrigerators fell below the same month last year for five consecutive months as the demand for nesting due to the new coronavirus has run its course.

According to the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association, the domestic shipment value of white goods in October was about 157.3 billion yen, 12.5% lower than the same month last year.

Shipments have fallen below the same month last year for the fifth straight month, mainly due to the end of demand for nesting due to the new coronavirus.

By product,

▽ air conditioners

decreased by

7.8%,

▽ refrigerators

On the other hand, in response to the increase in housing construction, dishwashers and cooking heaters are increasing their shipment value, and heating appliances such as electric carpets are also performing well due to the decrease in temperature.

Regarding the outlook for the future, the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association says, "We expect that demand for health and cleanliness will continue, but there are concerns about the impact on shipments due to insufficient supply of semiconductors and parts."
