The General Authority of Civil Aviation expected to reach the stage of full recovery for the sector during the next year, in light of the continuous indicators of air traffic in the country’s airports and across its airspace.

The authority stated in a panel discussion yesterday that the passenger numbers are better than expected, pointing out that the UAE is currently leading the international recovery process.

In detail, the Director-General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Al-Suwaidi, said, "The UAE is one of the very developed countries in the world in the performance of the air transport sector during the pandemic," noting that Dubai International Airport is in a way to operate at its full operational capacity, and it still maintains its position as the largest crossing point. For international air transportation. Al-Suwaidi added, on the sidelines of a panel discussion held by the Youth Council of the General Civil Aviation Authority at the Expo 2020 Dubai, yesterday, that “various indicators still support this recovery movement, including national carriers that continued to resume their flights to more destinations, and to operate more destinations.” The planes are in its fleet, with its pilots recalling to work again,” noting that other national carriers are currently operating their entire fleet during the current period.Al-Suwaidi expected that these indicators will continue to improve until the end of this year, pointing to very positive indicators of air traffic in the country’s airports and across its airspace, explaining that “with the continuation of this growth rate, it is expected that we will reach the stage of full recovery next year.”

Al Suwaidi said, "The passenger numbers are better than what we expected," noting that the UAE is currently leading the international recovery process.

He explained that the strong levels of demand for "Expo 2020", as well as the Dubai Air Show, and other events, contributed to the increase in the number of travelers.

The Director-General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Al-Suwaidi, said that "the presence of young people in the aviation sector is still shy," adding: "We are working to encourage them to enter the sector, and we are also seeking to establish a youth council for the aviation sector in coordination with the Youth Council within the authority."

He pointed out that "there is a national plan with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to raise Emiratisation rates in the aviation sector in its various fields," explaining that "the Emiratisation rate in the air traffic control sector will reach 50% by the end of this year, after the graduation of a batch of new national trainees."

He stated that "the program to localize air traffic control jobs at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Center receives great attention from the authority, as the program aims to increase the number of national employees and those in charge of air traffic management in the UAE," noting that there are a number of trainees in the various stages of training.
