Rolls-Royce says its all-electric plane hit 623 km / h on November 16.

Called "Spirit of Innovation", the machine has thus become the fastest all-electric aircraft in the world according to a statement from the British firm relayed by Numerama.

Rolls-Royce has carried out several test flights over Boscombe Down Air Base, located in the south of the United Kingdom.

This allowed him to break other records.

Here's the route our all-electric plane the #SpiritOfInnovation will take as it attempts to beat the world record for all-electric flight.

It'll cover a distance of 3km in a figure of eight and will take only 8 minutes to complete.https: //t.co/ca93Jab07N pic.twitter.com/Shk4ABFuvk

3 km altitude in 202 seconds

The plane has indeed maintained a speed of 555.9 km / h over 3 km, thus erasing the 213.04 km / h of the previous brand, points out the press release.

“Spirit of Innovation” also maintained a speed of 532.1 km / h over 15 km, again far ahead of the previous record of 292.8 km / h.

The plane was also able to rise to 3,000 meters in 202 seconds.

That's a minute better than the previous record, according to Rolls-Royce.

But beware, all these fine performances must now be certified.

The flight data was transmitted to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale "which controls and certifies the aeronautical and astronautical records of the world".

Power similar to Formula E

Rolls-Royce's electric plane is equipped with a 400 kWh electric powertrain, equivalent to that of an electric supercar.

It carries 6,480 battery cells, enough energy to charge 7,500 smartphones.

The voltage system reaches 750 volts, which gives the device a power similar to the Formula E of the all-electric championship.

The Rolls-Royce aircraft is aimed at short and medium distance air journeys.

It would be a question of transporting both passengers and freight.
