Electric car sales represent 13% of the new market, and a third if we add hybrid models.

To increase this trend for the sake of energy transition, companies have a big role to play.

This can involve the resale of electric models, which are still expensive, on the second-hand market.

How to step on the accelerator pedal of the electric car market?

Perhaps by soliciting more businesses.

This is the conclusion of the NGO Transport & Environment, which has just published a report on the progress made by manufacturers concerning their CO2 emission targets set by European regulations.

For the moment, 13% of the new market last October was 100% electric, with a share that climbs to a third of transactions if we add hybrid vehicles.

But, there are still brakes for motorists, especially the price, despite the bonuses.

Electric vehicles sold for less on the second-hand market

For an electric car to cost less than a thermal model, several studies estimate that it will take five or six years depending on the type of vehicle.

The main stake will be to lower the cost of batteries.

But in the shorter term, to accelerate and put affordable cars on the second-hand market, companies need to step up the electrification of their fleet.

"This is really the angle of attack because corporate fleets can afford to buy electric vehicles a little more expensive," explains on Europe 1 Diane Strauss, director of the NGO Transport & Environment.

When these companies buy a car, "they keep them for about three years, then they resell them on the second-hand market. It is by making it possible to electrify the fleets that we will be able to have electric vehicles on the market. opportunity for low-income households in the coming years, ”she explains. To take the plunge, companies are effectively encouraged: bonus, conversion bonus, and above all several tax advantages such as exemption from the tax on company vehicles when emissions are less than 50 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

This trend should also increase next year since from January 1, 2022, the mobility orientation law will impose a quota of 10% of low-emission models in fleets of more than 100 cars.
